If you're like me, you are thoroughly disgusted with the dishonesty and outright lying by certain candidates for high political office. The dishonesty and corruption in the political arena has reached new heights, as we have seen this past week in the news. What ever happened to honesty and integrity? Does anybody tell the TRUTH anymore? There are those who say, "O well, that's just the way it is in politics". Well, if that's the way it is, it's time for a change. It's time to get back to God's commandment: "Thou shalt not bear false witness".

The Source of Lying

Ever since Satan lied to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, and mankind fell into sin, people have had a propensity to be less than truthful in all their dealings. Jesus said Satan is a "liar from the beginning, and the father of lies" (John 8:44). The Apostle Paul, in his argument for the total depravity of the human race, said this: "(they) exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator" (Rom. 1:25).

The Consummate Dishonest Politician

We understand from the Bible that the future Anti-Christ will come to power because he is able to successfully perpetrate lies upon the entire world. "The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie" (II Thes. 2:9-10). And Daniel the prophet likewise explains how the Anti-Christ will gain political power: "Through his cunning he shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule" (Dan. 8:25).

Looking Forward to Christ's Kingdom

When Christ returns to the earth and sets up His Kingdom, it will be a government of perfect truth. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). I don't know about you, but I can't wait until He takes over planet earth, and puts an end to all these lies we keep hearing. How refreshing it will be that the King of kings actually keeps all the promises He has made! I am encouraged when I read Psalm 96:10, "Say among the nations, The Lord reigns! The world also is firmly established, it shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples righteously". And here are some other verses to give you hope. "I will be their God in truth and righteousness" (Zech. 8:8). Christ, who is called "Jehovah's Servant, "will bring forth justice for truth" (Isa. 42:3). "In mercy the throne (of Christ) will be established; and One (Jesus) will sit on it in truth, judging and seeking justice" (Isa. 16:5).

Here's My Vote

If you are sick and tired of all the "untrustworthy" political candidates, then cheer up. Someday soon Jesus will come back and set up His administration as "King over all the earth" (Zech. 14:9). I vote for that! Jesus is Someone I can unreservedly trust and support. How about you?
