Lately the news has been filled with stories of leaks of classified information that is proving damaging not only to the Trump administration but also to our entire national security. Someone in one of our security agencies (no doubt a holdover from the Obama years) for political purposes, keeps leaking sensitive information to the news media, and they are all too willing to print these stories. Never before has there been such a concentrated effort by our own security agencies, to undermine the President of the United States.
All of this reminds me of an interesting account in the Old Testament. According to II Kings 6:8-12, Benhadad, king of Syria, was at war with Israel, and every time he agreed to top secret plans with his military generals as to the movements of Syria's troops, somehow the classified information got into the hands of Israel. The Biblical account reads:
"Then the king of Syria warred against Israel and took counsel with his servants, saying: In such and such place shall be my camp. But the man of God (Elisha) sent unto the king of Israel, saying: Beware that you pass not such a place: for there is where the Syrians have come down."
The king of Syria was so upset about this breach of confidentiality that he called in his servants and accused them (one of them) of being loyal to Israel, a traitor. You might say he was on a campaign to stop the "leaks". It was then that Benhadad's servants told him the real problem. "None (of us) my lord. But Elisha the prophet that is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom!" Wow! How scary is that!
You could say that Elisha, the man of God, was the first "C.I.A. operative" in history and his daily intel briefings were the reason for Israel's success militarily. God Jehovah was revealing this classified information to Elisha, not one of Benhadad's aides.
And only God knows who is doing this damaging leaking of classified information about Trump to the news media. My hope is that one day, this traitor will be identified and sent to prison. The very institution of the Presidency depends on keeping national secrets, so I hope this national security threat is uncovered soon. We sure could use Elisha right now!
