Phony Political Promises

Promises, promises, promises. That’s all we ever hear from the Democrats. Did you listen to any of the debates this past week? These candidates remind us of the disgusting reality that politics is all about saying whatever you have to say in order to get votes. These people make promises they have no intention to keep, and no real ability to keep. Here are some examples:
In order to get the votes of college students, they promise free college tuition, and the doing away with all student loan debt. They don’t say how they are going to pay for all that, but you and I know—our taxes will be increased.
In order to get the votes of Hispanics, they promise open borders, sanctuary cities, and protection from I.C.E. Never mind that illegal immigrants are violating the law. And while they are here illegally, lets also give them all kinds of welfare benefits.
In order to get the votes of African Americans, they promise reparations for the past injustice of slavery. Seriously?
In order to get the votes of those not covered by employer-provided health insurance, they promise Medicare (free health insurance) for all. Again, they won’t say how they are going to pay for that, but you and I know—our taxes will be increased.
In order to get the votes of environmental extremists and the far left, they promise a “new green deal” that is estimated to cost 90 trillion dollars.
When is the American public going to wake up and realize all these promises are hollow and empty-- ridiculous attempts at pandering to various segments of our population? It seems the Democrats are willing to say anything to secure the votes of these gullible, uniformed, socialist-minded people.
I am so glad that God’s promises are true, and will be kept. Just as all the OT promises of a Messiah came true when Christ came to earth and died on the cross, so all the promises of salvation are likewise true and faithful. Jesus said: “He that comes to me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37). To Nicodemus, Jesus promised: “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:14-15).
God’s promises are based on His character. He tells the truth because He IS the truth (John 14:6). He has the power to keep His Word because He is all-powerful. “He cannot deny Himself” (II Tim. 2:13). “For all the promises of God in Him are ‘Yea, and Amen’” (II Cor. 1:20).
In an age where political promises mean absolutely nothing, it is so encouraging to belong to Jesus, and know “that what He has promised He is able to perform” (Rom. 4:21).
