Next week Nancy and I will be celebrating our birthdays. Her's is the 11th and mine the 12th. Both of us will now officially be in our 70's! Where have all those years gone?
This summer is also momentous in that we are having our 50th wedding anniversary (Aug. 16, 1969). The whole family is getting together around the 4th of July, so we will have the joy and rare opportunity of having our entire family (6 kids, their spouses, and the 18 grandkids) all together at one time. That is the fruit of our fifty years of marriage!
I also am looking forward to preaching at our local church here in Harrisonburg on July 21st. Since my retirement from active pastoral ministry 5 years ago, the preaching opportunities have been few and far between, so I am always excited to be able to share the Word of God and "dust off" my spiritual gift of Bible teaching.
I will be sharing a message I have preached before (from Mark 6) entitled: How to Make It Through The Storms of Life. All of us, as believers, face our "storms" from time to time. As you know, Nancy has her own special trial fighting the effects of her muscular disease. We recently made several renovations to our home so as to accommodate her wheelchair, especially in the bedroom and bathroom, for the sake of better accessibility.
God has truly been good to us over the years, and we are thankful for His many blessings. I echo the testimony of King David when he said: "I have been young, and now I am old; yet have I never seen the righteous forsaken, or his seed begging bread" (Psa. 37:25). This testimony of God's faithful provision is our testimony too.
