One of the best reasons for believing in the Bible, and believing in the person of Jesus Christ, is all of the prophecies of the Old Testament that He fulfilled. Truly, these many fulfilled prophecies are a testimony to the Inspiration and Authority of Scripture! Here are just 20 of the more common ones.

  1. To be born of a VIRGIN (Isa. 7:14)
  2. To be preceded by a FORERUNNER :John the Baptist. (Isa. 40:3-5; Mal. 3:1)
  3. To be born in BETHLEHEM (Micah 5:2)
  4. To be worshipped by WISE men and presented with gifts (Psa. 72:10; Isa. 60:3)
  5. To be in EGYPT for a season (Num. 24:8; Hosea 11:1)
  6. To be ZEALOUS in his cleansing of the temple (Psa. 69:9; 119:139)
  7. To be REJECTED by His own people (Isa. 53:3; Psa. 69:8)
  8. To make a triumphal ENTRY into Jerusalem (Zech. 9:9)
  9. To be the rejected “CORNERSTONE” of Israel (Psa. 118:22)
  10. To be BETRAYED by a close friend for 30 pieces of silver (Psa. 41:9; 55:12-14)
  11. To be scourged and SPAT upon (Isa. 50:6)
  12. To be crucified between two THIEVES, “transgressors” (Isa. 53:12)
  13. To be given VINEGAR to drink in his thirst (Psa. 69:21)
  14. To suffer the “PIERCING” of his hands and feet (Psa. 22:16; Zech. 12:10)
  15. To have his GARMENTS parted and gambled for (Psa. 22:18)
  16. To be surrounded, ridiculed by his enemies: “He TRUSTED in God” (Psa. 22:7-8)
  17. To experience severe THIRST (Psa. 22:15)
  18. To die without having any BROKEN broken (Psa. 34:20; Num. 9:2)
  19. To be BURIED in a tomb of a rich man (Isa. 53:9)
  20. To be RAISED from the dead (Psa. 16:10)

What are the odds, the mathematical probabilities, of all these specific prophecies being fulfilled in the life and death of Jesus, hundreds of, (even a thousand) years after they were given? This is why we can trust the Bible, and why we can believe in Christ as the true Savior of the world.
