Nancy and I had a wonderful, blessed time at Odosagih Bible Conference last week. This was my sixth time of preaching there as the speaker for the week. The campground is situated on a peaceful, serene spot along Lime Lake in Machias, NY. The picture you see was taken from the back deck of our motel room, overlooking the lake. Each of the six days we were there (Sunday the 19th through Friday the 24th) I preached twice--once in the morning at 10:30 and then again in the evening at 7:00.
First, I was thankful for the opportunity to preach the Word of God 12 times in one week, as the opportunities to preach have been few and far between since I retired four years ago. I sincerely appreciated the invitation of Ron Uhlman, the director, to be on the schedule for 2016. I was also encouraged to receive an invitation to return during the summer of 2018 (July 26th). Preaching God's Word is an honor and a privilege that I do not take for granted.
Second, we were greatly blessed by the number of friends from Marilla Baptist who drove down to hear me speak. Renewing fellowship with these dear friends was the highlight of our week. We got to see 76 different church people from Marilla. Each night after the service was over, we enjoyed having a dish of ice cream with a group of them. I couldn't help but think that this was what heaven is going to be like (not the ice cream--the fellowship of the saints!). The week was like a big reunion, seeing dear Christian friends from years gone by.
We also enjoyed seeing Reg and Gretchen Dunneman again, who lead the singing for the worship services, and Lois Dungan who is a dear lady and a fantastic pianist. They have become good friends. Also, we met Eric and Kathy Hilton, the singers for the week, and were so blessed by their music that we picked the same week in 2018 that they will be there, as our next speaking engagement at Odosagih. God is good. In the words of the hymn writer, our week at Odosagih could be described by the words: O what a foretaste of glory divine!
